Earth might be better off without us, no offense. While opposable thumbs and tech are cool, our money obsession is overkill. Climate change and human impact are out of control, and alongside major issues like AI, cancer, and war, saving animals and the planet still matters. I’m drawn to spaces where beauty and tension exist at the same time... where growth, loss, and resilience overlap. My work balances seriousness with accessibility, aiming to spark innocent interest first, and deeper reflection second. Drawing inspiration from news and social media, I create experiences that feel immediate and visceral, while still carrying and encouraging layered narratives about our relationship with the environment and the impact we leave behind.
Lauren Nielsen is a multidisciplinary artist based in Florida whose work explores the fragility and resilience of the natural world. She earned her BFA in Painting with a minor in Drawing from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2024, and attended the Academy of Environmental Science during her high school years. Growing up amid a beautiful yet ever-changing landscape fostered her deep love for nature and wildlife, while also exposing her to its detriments. These early experiences shape her visual language, which appears light and approachable on the surface, while addressing complex themes beneath. Her research-based approach using collages made from personal or freely sourced images infuses her work with authenticity and relevance. Bold colors, graphic forms, and intentional contrasts stop viewers in their tracks. Whether working small or large, she creates impactful designs that demand attention and linger in the mind - vibrant billboards for environmental activism.
